Today's Studio Session - Workbook Notes

Ive just started three large drip works with a base of oil paint splashes . I have three photographs for reference which I'm trying to encompass as a reference without going all the way towards representation.  I would like the story of the painting to bring about natural changes which bring something new on offer, other than what the photograph already says .

I also foresee what I call 'foreign objets' being brought into the landscape as the work involves. I have photographs I have collected and taken with images of people, signs, car's, caravan's these may morph into a painting if it fits, otherwise something 'on the spot' may make its way into the landscape which will in turn become something imaginary and symbiotic to whats happening in the painting frame, and this will hopefully add to the story of the painting.

Right now I want to keep the luscious drips ! while introducing landscape.

A thought

I stroke my imagination and allow a brief moment for my feet to lift off the floor. An essence entrancing to show me a glimpse of things which have been and which may come. Remember those moments of excitement from a real wave you made which made your voice speak all at once without you knowing it?The time you are unable to conserve a grin which spread across your cheek like a genetically modified banana. So begins the floating.
A dream, a dream we all fall down, simmering boil point has allowed my current consciousness to let down it’s guard, motioning with it’s hand and welcoming this fresh tide of inspiration. My mind turns a blind eye as a smile is achieved deep down low.
I think back to the dream last night. Flying, flying, impossible and incredible we fly off a jump at ludicrous speed, I wonder that we might end up in hospital as it’s all too late, time slows down as we are in the air and my stomach is way up high, giddy. Impossibly fun, as the dream continues for what may have been an eternity in my made up world. To me the dream has taken hold and has grasped and settled into my real life. Adventures and flying. But before I wake I have stepped up into another wave, monstrous, hmmmm I wonder if I could do that?

An old piece of writing I found of mine which I thought I'd share !

As I ventured to paint outside in Nelson somewhere near the gardens, I suddenly realised I didn't have an easel. In the exploration for a painting spot, there was a tree stump which suited just fine.

Three words to explain the day's plein air process:

Fast

Flow

Freedom
